Hall Pass
I was listening to a podcast and the host was discussing the concept of giving yourself a “hall pass.” I immediately started thinking that this was an awesome thing!
So many times, I will give others a pass …. they are having a difficult day, they have stuff happening in their life, etc.…. However, I am not so understanding to myself. I have these self-expectations, that I can figure out how to push on and continue.
Is this really the best thing for me?
I do not want to give up, but I also want to be smart about moving forward. I want to do what is in my best interest. I like the idea of using the “hall pass” for things like not wanting to do something or go somewhere. No explanation is needed, I just invoke the hall pass. I am so excited about using my “hall pass!”
Let’s take it one step further. How about a day “hall pass”? I just need to stay in my pajamas for the day. Sit on my deck reading a book and drinking tea. To get a hall pass from doing laundry and cooking meals for the day. I think that my day “hall pass” would also include not answering my phone. This “hall pass” thing is getting serious!
I ask myself why this concept is so exciting?
- First, I am being creative and it’s fun.
- Second, I am just imagining how I will feel when I have used the “hall pass” which is ALL about being respectful of me. I believe it will feel empowering. I will be doing what I want others to do for me as well as for themselves. What a totally cool idea……role modeling desired actions.
How are you going to use your “hall pass”?
